This is an excellent TEDX talk from Dr Peter Saul, about the future of care and dying. Well communicated and incredibly eye-opening, I highly recommend you take the 12 minutes to watch.
We need to think about quality of life, and what that means to us. Each of us have our own perspective, most of us believe this has something to do with independence and not relying on others to survive. When we speak about loss of mental capacity we often reflect that this would be more a burden on our family than ourselves. Our understanding being that we would be unaware of the circumstances and our behaviours, but that it would indeed be horrible for our loved ones to witness.
Either way we are living longer and we need to decide how we want to approach this.
