It seems again and again people have issues with phone service providers and the closing of a deceased account. Doing so can be like trying to negotiate a peace treaty with a brick wall. You start with a polite “Hello” prepared and hopeful that you will speak with someone that can just solve the problem. The customer service representative on the end of the phone, seemingly impervious to the grim reality of death, insists on confirming the identity of your dearly departed. “Could you please provide their address?” they ask, as if the great beyond has a forwarding address.
There are countless reports of people being asked to provide proof of death multiple times and then still being referred to a debt collection agency, often effecting their credit rating and their ability to purchase a house.
